The approx. 50.000 inhabitants counting city Nasca is especially noted for its Nasca Lines, huge drawings which are only recognizable from above. These lines are spread over an area of over 500 km² and demonstrate an abstract kind of animals like spider, spider monkey, orca, pelican, condor and hummingbird. Some of them are 6 times bigger than a Jumbo Jet. Until today nobody can give a scientific explanation about this phenomenon. Some scientists are guessing that the Nasca Lines demonstrate the astronomic knowledge of the folk that lived in this area in 200 AD. The German geographer Maria Reiche made the geometrical lines to her life`s work. In 1994 the Nasca Lines were declared to the UNESCO world heritage.
