Llamatrek: Olleros - Chavin
The classic trek in Peru: hike with llama's through the Andes!
Easy 3-day trek from Olleros to Chavin, one of the most important archeaological sites in Peru,
which we of course visit on the third day.
The steady gradual climb towards the Yanashallash Pass makes it possible to do the
trek with lamas and not with donkeys, which most of the treks are used.
(Lamas are a lot weaker than donkeys)
The main tempel in Chavin is dated back to 1200 BC and ist the most important pre-inka culture
in Peru. (As a comparison: Machu Picchu is from ca. 1470 AD!)
This trek combines adventure with culture, is relatively short and can be done with the traditional
lamas. This combination makes it a very popular trek in the Huaraz region.
Duration: 3 days
Highest altitude: 4.700 m (Punta Yanashallash)
Difficulty: Easy
Description:
Day 1: Pick up from your Hotel and transfer to the trailstart in Olleros.
About 5 hours hiking to Sacracancha.
Day 2: Today we hike 6 hours towards Shoncopampa, our next campsite passed the Yanashallash Pass (4700m).
Day 3: We hike about 4 hours to Chavin through several small villages. Many visitors have
given children "caramelos" ... the effect is very noticeable.
Afternoon visit to the site of Chavin. Very interesting!!
Our tours are like the ones you would book back home in one of the fancy travel agents.
Our staff is selected not only because of their qualifications but also because of their social skills. You are spending a lot of time together and nothing is worse than a nasty guide or constantly begging donkey driver.
It must be mentioned though, that many local providers do not respect working conditions and exploit their staff and so generate malbehaviour. Needless to say that that doesn't happen with us.
